AXIS Performs at Bay Area Global Health Film Festival


Hosted by the Institute for Global Orthopedics and Traumatology (IGOT) a non-profit organization dedicated to improve the care of underserved populations affected by orthopaedic trauma injuries worldwide. IGOT’s work is rooted in a commitment to long-term sustainability and impact and spans efforts to improve education, research, and advocacy for surgical care in developing countries. IGOT is part of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco and is based at the Orthopaedic Trauma Institute at San Francisco General Hospital.

The festival will be held Wednesday Sept. 30 at Public Works in the Mission District of San Francisco. AXIS will present a short performance and will be tabling the event that takes place from 6-10 pm.

11:00 am Performance of AXIS Dance Company's to go again by Joe Goode at the YBCA Theater.

Celebrating themes of Connection, Civic Leadership, and Social Innovation. The San Francisco Foundation's Bay Area Bold Festival celebrates visionary leaders doing extraordinary work to strengthen Bay Area communities. This work may confront societal or civic issues, address health or environmental concerns, or promote arts and humanities.

Gaga is a new way of gaining knowledge & self-awareness through your body. The class provides a framework for discovering & strengthening your body while adding to your imagination. It takes place in a room with no mirrors, accompanied by music, in comfortable clothes, each person with themselves & others. This class welcomes dancers of all abilities.

Bobbi Jene Smith is from Ames, Iowa. She is an alumnus of the Juilliard School, North Carolina School of the Arts, and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and currently teaching Gaga at Stanford University. From 2005-2014 she was a member of the Batsheva Dance Company. She is a certified Gaga teacher and has taught the repertory of Ohad Naharin in school and universities around the US since 2005.
