Class will explore the rich technique developed by Lester Horton. The movements are devised to fortify, stretch and reshape the body to help produce an accomplished, well- rounded, contemporary dancer. Dancers work with a broad range of expression, musicality and strong technical skill. The Horton technique is unique and insightful. Its approach to anatomy is extremely logical and very compatible with ballet. We will examine the fundamentals of this dynamic technique, exploring elements of the studies and fortifications, and incorporating them into choreographic phrases both in the center and across the floor. This class is intended for students with dance experience, who are interested in an introduction to modern dance or in learning the fundamentals of the Horton technique. No previous experience with Horton is required.
