Today is Arts Advocacy Day:

"I look forward to an America which will reward achievement in the arts as we reward achievement in business or statecraft… and will steadily enlarge cultural opportunities for all of our citizens. And I look forward to an America which commands respect throughout the world not only for its strength but for its civilization as well.” -President John F. Kennedy 1963
Last week the Trump Administration submitted its first budget request to Congress, which included elimination of every one of our federal cultural agencies — the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Institute for Museum and Library Services, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
These agencies are a cornerstone to the cultural foundation of our country and support a $730billion industry that represents 4.2% of the nation’s GDP and directly employ 4.8 million people. The National Endowment for the Arts’ FY2016 appropriation of $147.9 million constitutes approximately .004 percent of the federal budget.

The proposed budget also eliminates vital services for those of us who are disabled, elderly, children or poor. This in an unprecedented attack on the cultural and social programs that benefit ALL of us and it calls for unprecedented action.
The arts matter! Everyone regardless of ability, age, race, class, religion, sexual orientation or gender identification can benefit from the arts when given the opportunity to participate. The arts bridge differences, give voice and inspire achievement.
AXIS Dance Company receives funding from the NEA and we benefit greatly from funding that schools, universities and organizations receive to hire AXIS to work in their communities. We see first-hand everyday how vital art is.
AXIS is asking you to join us in speaking out boldly and loudly in support of the arts! Call, email and write to your representatives at the local, state and national level and let them know how much the arts matter to you!
