Robin Anderson joins the AXIS team with fifteen years of experience in arts administration, most recently serving as Community Liaison and Dance Center Director at Alonzo King LINES Ballet for the past seven years. In addition to managing a program of 80 classes per week for adult dancers, Robin was actively involved in the Central Market Community. She established an Outreach & Engagement Program for LINES serving youth in the surrounding community and helped found the 24 days of Central Market Arts Festival.
Prior to moving to San Francisco, Robin pursued her MFA in dance at the Ohio State University where she produced a multi-media audience development series, designed to address a range of accessibility issues in dance. As a teacher, performer, choreographer, administrator, and ambassador for the field, Robin is dedicated to challenging the traditional barriers of dance, whether it is the lack of one’s belief in their body’s ability, or the separation of performers and the audience.
Throughout Robin's career, she has worked in three different cities for a wide range of arts organizations such as, The Wexner Center for the Arts, Oregon Ballet Theatre, and Homowo African Arts and Cultures. From Portland, Oregon to Columbus, Ohio and now the Bay Area, upon arrival in each city she has worked hard to understand the local constituent communities’ needs, the resources available within each organization, and sought out new partnerships to benefit all parties. She looks forward to applying this passion and skill to her work as Community Engagement Manager with AXIS Dance Company.
