My name is Rebecca Fortelka, I am so honored that Karl Cronin asked me to be the Guest Editor of this blog! A little bit of background on me. I joined the board of directors for AXIS Dance Company in January of 2013 and love the fact that I can be a part of such a great organization. I have Cerebral Palsy and a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers–Danlos syndrome (EDS) that has several complications. I have dedicated my life to raising awareness for those of us with rare conditions and disabilities because we are often not heard by the community. In addition, I am freelance marketer, writer and web designer. I love all things tech and spend way too much time watching TED Talks and Netflix. I think these binge watches are good for the creative soul!
My hope for this blog is that you as the reader get to learn more about AXIS Dance Company, our friends and colleagues in the field, and see what inspires us to create our work. The world of integrative dance not only wows the people it touches, but it helps break down barriers and helps people learn about the issues we as disabled people face. This blog will touch on some of those issues, and we hope it inspires you to explore the role you can plan in celebrating diversity and changing the face of dance and disability.
I look forward to going on this blogging adventure with you!
