Here at AXIS, we love performing in new places and environments and watching as people's preconceptions shatter about who can and should be able to dance. Traveling to Russia, we knew we'd be crossing some even larger cultural divides than we're used to. Below is a letter from Lisa from Link Vostok who invited us to be a part of this cultural exchange:
"Everyone loved AXIS and many minds change from the beginning of the festival. Before everyone arrived, I was told 'Handicapped people stay in their homes in Yaroslavl' and 'Why are you bringing a handicapped dancer to the festival?' Imagine my concerns which turned into gold after people met Joel, Sebastian and Sonsherée. They were the hit of the festival. How great! I felt so proud and so happy and still do.
...I was interviewed several times by the television about AXIS and after the class was asked what Yaroslavl could do to improve their handicapped access. I said I would help and look forward to doing so...
Thank you SO much for your great help, appreciation to Judy and to everyone at AXIS. This was one of the best moments of my life and I am so appreciative. Thank you thank you!" - Lisa
