Auditions - Seeking Male Dancer

AXIS Dance Company is seeking one male dancer with experience in modern dance, Contact Improvisation or other dance techniques. AXIS is a dynamic contemporary dance company comprised of dancers with and without physical disabilities that has been active in the Bay Area, nationally, and internationally since 1987.  Our award winning repertory includes works by internationally renowned choreographers Bill T Jones, Ann Carlson, Sonya Delwaide, Joe Goode, Joanna Haigood, Victoria Marks, Stephen Petronio, Margaret Jenkins and AXIS company members. Our eclectic dance vocabulary results in a repertory spanning risky and dynamic partnering work; stunning aerial work on a variety of apparatus; quirky and humorous dance theater pieces; and lush, formalistic ensemble work. AXIS also maintains an extensive dance education program Dance Access and a youth component Dance Access/KIDS!. Upcoming projects for 08/09include new works by Alex Ketley, Eric Kupers and David Dorfman as well as understudying roles in work by Margaret Jenkins, Sonya Delwaide and others. AXIS creates, performs and teaches practically year-round locally and abroad. Rehearsals are two to five times a week. All work is paid and AXIS provides monthly stipends for healthcare, professional development and transportation.  Additional opportunities choreographing, teaching, and administration. A genuine interest in and commitment to physically integrated dance is a must. AXIS requires a minimum commitment of two years.  For more information  about AXIS visit us at www.axisdance.org.

Internships

AXIS offers non-paid internships. Interns have the opportunity to see first-hand how a small non-profit contemporary dance company functions from the ground up. Interns shadow the Managing Director and offer clerical and administrative assistance to AXIS Dance Company directors.
